Q: I would like to apply for MScIE. When should I submit the application?

Application for admission normally commences in early September. You should pay attention to the Graduate School’s announcement for the application deadline.

Q: What are the procedures of applying MScIE?

You are required to submit online application via the Graduate School. Check out the detailed application procedures here.

Q: Will there be any admission interview?

No interview will be arranged.

Q: Under what circumstances should I submit the English test result?

If you obtain your degree from a university in Hong Kong or an English-speaking country, you are not required to submit any English proficiency test scores.

Otherwise, you are required to possess a recent test result of either GMAT, HKDSE, IELTS or TOEFL. 

 

Q: How long are the IELTS and TOEFL results valid?

The IELTS and TOEFL are considered valid for two years after the test date.

Q: I am going to apply for the TOEFL report. What are the Institute Code of CUHK and Department Code?

The CUHK code is 0812. For Department Code, please select 99 as IE Department is not listed at the TOEFL’s code list.

Q: What documents do I need to provide for application?

You are required to upload the supporting documents to Online Application System. Please refer to the admission procedure here.

Q: Can I submit two reference letters instead of recommendation reports?

You are required to submit two Confidential Recommendation Report completed by the referees.

If you only submit two reference letters, your application will be suspended without notification as we consider you have not yet submitted all the required documents.

Q: I have submitted the online application already. How can I check the application result?

You may check the application status and results via the Online Application System.

Q: How can I apply for student visa in Hong Kong if I am admitted to MScIE?

Non‐local students who are not in possession of any valid visa/entry permit to study in the HKSAR are required to apply for a student visa. Once you have accepted the offer, please follow the instructions of the Graduate School to apply for student visa. Check out the procedure here.

Q: What are the procedures of course selection and Add/Drop?

Q: How do I add/ drop course in CUSIS?

You may refer to the steps here to select courses via CUSIS (Chinese University Student Information System).

Q: I want to register course(s) which offered by other M.Sc. programme(s). Where can I find the Application Form CS-1?

You may download the Form CS-1 here.

After getting approval from the corresponding M.Sc. programme(s), please return the approved Form CS-1 to us for further process.

Q: How can I pay tuition fee?

You have to check your Campus-Wide E-mail System (“CWEM”) mailbox and login CUSIS to enquire the details of the fee notes. Please refer to the Notes on Payment of Student Fees for more details.

Q: I am a Full-time student, can I take up part-time employment during the study?

A student registered for a full-time course of study shall not take up any full-time or part-time employment, paid or unpaid, during term time within the normative period of study. Student in breach the above CUHK regulations may be required to discontinue study.

Nonetheless, full-time students may take up part-time on-campus employment.

Q: I am a Full-time non-local student, can I take up an internship?

Yes, Full-time non-local student can take up part-time study/curriculum-related internship during MScIE study, given that you should have the No objection Letter (NOL) issued by the Immigration Department along with the student visa.

The part-time internship is subject to Programme Director’s approval. Application for Internship Approval must be completed in advance before the internship employment starts.

Q: How can I apply for leave of absence?

The Application form for Leave of Absence can be downloaded from the Student Platform.

Q: How long can I take for leave of absence?

You may apply for leave of absence from one term to a maximum up to two years.  Tuition fee is not charged during the period of absence if a student who has been approved to take leave for a whole term before the start of a new term.  Application form for Leave of absence can be downloaded from the Student Platform

Q: Can I apply for shortening my normative study period?

You can apply for shortening normative study period if you have completed a minimum of 24 units and achieved a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.0 earlier than the normative study period.

Q: After completing all course examinations and all grades have been released, how long will it take for the Graduate School to endorse my graduation?

It normally takes around 2-3 months for Graduate School to endorse your graduation.

Q: When and how can I apply for IANG visa?

After Graduation Division finished your graduation assessment and recommended you for graduation to Graduate School, you may submit online application for a certifying letter on Graduate School website.

You may then submit the certifying letter together with the IANG visa application form* and other supporting documents (as stipulated by the Immigration Department) to the Immigration Department of HKSAR for the application of IANG visa. Please visit the IANG webpage for details.

*IANG: Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates.

Q: How long does it take to process my application for certifying letter for IANG visa application?

It normally takes 5 working days upon receipt of Graduate Division’s endorsement of your graduation. Graduate Divisions will only endorse your graduation provided that you have successfully completed all requirements of the programme, or for RPg students have submitted the final version of your thesis.

Q: How can I apply for official transcript, certifying Letter and report on curriculum details?

Q: When will I receive the graduation certificate?

The graduate certificates will be issued approximately one month after the degree conferment date. You may refer to the arrangement for collection of graduate certificates.

Q: My student visa/entry permit will soon expire. When and how can I renew my student visa to continue with my studies in Hong Kong?

You may apply for IANG visa upon your fulfillment of the graduation requirements of the programme and Graduate Division’s endorsement of your graduation.

Please submit online application for a certifying letter to Graduate School.  You may then submit this certifying letter to the Immigration Department of HKSAR together with the IANG visa application form and other supporting documents as stipulated by the Immigration Department of HKSAR.  Please visit the IANG webpage at the Immigration Department of HKSAR for relevant details.

Q: I want to know about the graduation process and collection of graduate certificates. Where can I get the information?

You may refer to the Graduation Information and FAQ at Graduate School website for the relevant information.

Q: I lost my graduate certificates. Can I apply for a replacement certificate?

You may apply for a replacement certificate in case of loss or damage of an original certificate.  Application for replacement due to change of name after graduation will not be accepted. Please visit the Notes to Applicants for more details.
